Bonnie Joan (Renker) Ediger, 84, of Lincoln, passed away July 14, 2017. She was born
January 29, 1933 to Roy and Lela (Jones) Renker in Lexington, NE.
At age 13, Joan came to live with the Earl and Peg Bruning family as a Mother’s Helper for one-year old twins Dick and Don Bruning, and lovingly cared for them. Joan was affectionately known as ‘Nonnie’ to her young foster brothers.
Joan graduated from Lincoln High School in 1951, and the Lincoln General Hospital School of Nursing in 1954 as a Registered Nurse. She completed a BS at Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1958.
After moving to Minnesota, she earned a Master’s Degree in Nursing Education and was employed as a Nursing Professor–a career she loved–in Winona, MN, and at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. She completed her career at the University of Wisconsin, in Eau Claire, WI, in the School of Nursing.
Joan was preceded in death by two husbands – Leland Ediger and Duane Petersen.

Katherine (Nate) Pinch, Lincoln, NE; and Jennifer (Corey Miller) Bruning, Chicago lL; Donald (Janet) Bruning, Eau Claire, Wl; daughter Victoria (Mark) Paulson, Henderson, NV; son James (Ashley) Bruning, Windsor, CO.
Our sister Joan was a much-loved member of our family and cherished by all. We will miss her.
