Steven Taylor

December 1, 1949 - May 11, 2026

Steven James Taylor was born in Rochester, Minnesota to Bowen Eeckert and Caroline Susan Taylor on December 1, 1949.

His family moved to Lincoln, Nebraska in 1951.
Steve graduated from Lincoln Southeast Highschool in 1968. He earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln in Industrial Arts in 1975. He was married to his beloved wife Jo Shotkoski in 1971 in Broken Bow, Nebraska. Steve was a proud father of his son Luke, who was born in 1977, and daughter Lindsey, born in 1981.

Steve began his career as a draftsman for ISCO. He also worked as an Industrial Arts teacher for the Services of the Visually Impaired. Steve sold windows for several years for Pella and Built Best. The last 25 years of his career were spent working for Concrete Industries as a structural drafter. He retired in 2018.

Steve held onto many successful hobbies as he was greatly skilled, detail-oriented and extremely creative. He was a talented piano player, rang handbells at First Plymouth Congregational church for over 25 years, an actor in various productions, bow hunting for deer, wood worker, and maintained a beautiful yard with over 60 types of hostas. He handmade over 100 hypertufat pots for his yard and as gifts to others. Steve vacationed in Colorado for over 35 years and truly felt at home in the mountains. Jo and Steve attended Stroke Camp for the past 7 years, this was a true highlight of their year.

In November of 2018, Steve survived a stroke. The right side of his body was paralyzed. Through intense therapy and determination, he was able to walk with just a cane or a walker. He was so proud that he was able to recreate his hobby of making hypertufa pots after his stroke. Steve and Jo made several new friends through camp and within their support group. He spent a lot of time at Madonna-Pro-Active working with his trainer.

Remaining to cherish Steve’s memory are his wife Jo Taylor, son Luke Taylor, daughter-in-law Cassie Taylor, daughter, Lindsey Carlson, son-in-law Seth Carlson, grandchildren, Bowen Taylor, Layla Taylor, Estes Taylor, Hayes Carlson, June Carlson, great-grandchild Braelynn Taylor.
