Judith Anne Flansburg Burton

May 17, 1933 - March 28, 2024

Judith Burton died peacefully March 28, 2024, with her two children by her side. Born May 17, 1933, Judy was the second child of Dr. Harry Ernest Flansburg and Mrs. Mary Helen Allensworth Flansburg of Lincoln. She is predeceased by her husband, Dr. Robert Millard Burton, her parents and her brother Stephen Flansburg.

Judy was born and raised in Lincoln, and attended Lincoln High School before transferring to Ferry Hall, a preparatory school in Lake Forest, Illinois. She returned to Lincoln earning an undergraduate degree in Art, and later a Masters of Fine Arts from the University of Nebraska. She was an active member of Kappa Alpha Theta, the Nebraska Arts Association, Colonial Dames, Junior League, Patriarchs, Fortnightly, the Country Club of Lincoln.

She married Dr. Robert M. Burton in 1955 and raised their two children, Anne and Jim. Judy enjoyed spending time at their Minnesota cabin, skiing in Colorado, playing tennis and jogging each morning down Sheridan Boulevard.

Judy became an accomplished painter throughout the Midwest and brought creativity and vibrancy to her community. She received numerous awards, including Nebraska Arts Council fellowships, the Thomas Coleman printmaking award, and the Mayors Arts Artistic Achievement Award in 2011 for Visual Arts.

Her two children, daughter Anne Burton, (Chris Burton) their twins, William and Isabel and son Jim Burton, and his daughters Camila and Lucia, will miss her greatly.
