Obituary

Wendy Jean Hanna – Gallentine

March 24, 1955 - February 4, 2024

Wendy Jean Hanna – Gallentine passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on February 4, 2024, after courageously dealing with cancer; she was 68 years old. Wendy was born on March 24, 1955, in Lincoln, to Richard (Dick) and Elizabeth (Beth) Hanna.

She graduated from Northeast High School in 1973. Wendy spent her working years as a valuable employee, with the ability to connect with all teams she supported, spanning from executives in the tech industry to individual farmers in the seed and agricultural industry. She ultimately retired from NC+/Channel/Bayer in 2018.

Wendy loved to be outside in the sunshine, hosting family and friends by the pool, fishing or camping with Bill, traveling, often adventuring to new places with Becky, but her biggest joys in life were being a mom and grandma. Her granddaughters Halen and Hollis hung the moon for her.

Wendy had the biggest heart; always thinking of others, frequently shopping or putting together baked goods for friends and family. Up until she passed, Wendy was a member of Scattered Kindness, a women’s giving group in Lincoln, who meet monthly and support or contribute to nonprofits or individuals in need.

The family extends heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff of NHO for their caring and compassionate treatment of Wendy.

Wendy is survived by her son, Rich Hanna (Clarin Collins), her husband and partner of 32 years, William Gallentine, Jr. (Bill), his three children (Cassie McDonald, Jessica Lindhurst, Steven Gallentine) 14 grandchildren, sister Becky Hanna (Tim Keelan), brother Bob Hanna (Vanessa) and nephews Tom Hanna (Sara) and Trevor Hanna (Isabel). She is preceded by her parents, Dick and Beth Hanna, and brother Thomas Hanna.

To honor Wendy’s life, the family wishes that any charitable donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org/donate) or sent to Scattered Kindness (made out to Becky Hanna, PO Box 30552, Lincoln, NE 68503).

Visitation open to friends and family will be Sunday, February 11 from 1 – 3 pm, with family present, at Roper & Sons Midtown Chapel (4300 O Street, Lincoln).

A private family burial will take place Monday at Fairview Cemetery.

Family and friends will be welcome to join for a Celebration of Life on March 24, 2024, her birthday, at Misty’s in Havelock beginning at 3 pm.

I have many fond memories of spending Wednesday afternoons in the summers with Wendy in her pool. I admired her for the way she kept track of people and was always there to help. I will miss her great smile especially on Wednesdays.

I’m so sorry to learn that Wendy passed away. We worked together at Channel and I remember her always being so meticulous when it came to planning the annual trip for top sales reps. Wendy always made sure everyone was having a good time. And her granddaughters … her face lit up whenever she talked about the girls. May the memories you have guide you through this sad time. Hugs.
