Marj graduated from Fremont High School in 1958, where she was active in music and the arts. She played bass clarinet and bass drum in the marching band, sang in the choir, and participated in the state Madrigal competition. She went on to attend the University of Nebraska, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and graduated in 1962 with a degree in Business Administration.
Following graduation, Marj began her professional career with IBM as a systems engineer. In 1964, she married George C. Albin, and together they raised two children, Joseph and Katherine. The family soon purchased and operated a commercial orchard, Apple Hill Farm, and established Apple Hill Arabians, an Arabian horse breeding and training facility at what is now HiMark Golf Course. Marj and George successfully bred, trained, and showed numerous Arabian horses, including many national championship winners. Her love of horses remained an important part of her life for many years.
Marj was deeply committed to her community and generously gave her time and energy to numerous nonprofit and volunteer organizations. She served on the board of the Children’s Zoo and the Lincoln Symphony Board and was president of the Nebraska Arabian Horse Association. She was also a member of the Junior League of Lincoln. Her volunteer service with the Lancaster County Republican Party earned her the Volunteer of the Year honor and the Asabelle Craig Award.
Throughout her life, Marj embraced a wide range of interests and adventures. She loved raising and showing horses, sailing, skiing, traveling, gardening, tennis, golf, and, most of all, spending time with family and friends. She was a member of the Country Club of Lincoln, Phoenix Country Club, and Lincoln Racquet Club. An accomplished and independent businesswoman, Marj was the owner and president of EZ Read Jumbo Rain Gauge. She also invested in several businesses, including West America in Scottsdale, Arizona, where she later spent much of her time. She especially enjoyed her summers at her lake cabin on Lincoln Point in Minnesota.
Marj was preceded in death by her husband, George Albin, in 1979; William Groszkruger in 2011; her parents, Laverle and Joseph Morehouse; and her brother, David Morehouse.
She is survived by her sister, Genie Bahm of Lincoln; her son, Joseph Albin of Lincoln; her daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and Peter Ronlund of Denver, Colorado; and her granddaughter, Bretton Ronlund of Minneapolis, Minnesota. She is also survived by her stepchildren, Nancy Groszkruger of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Fritz and Dawn Groszkruger of Dumont, Iowa; step-grandchildren Hans, Karl, Gretchen Groszkruger, and James Wehrman; and three step-great-grandchildren.
Marj will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, independence, generosity, love of animals, and devotion to the people and activities that brought meaning and joy to her life. She leaves behind a legacy of family, friendship, community service, and a life lived with humor, enthusiasm and purpose.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 28, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2110 Sheridan Blvd., Lincoln, NE 68502. A luncheon will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Marjorie’s name to the Capital Humane Society or the Children’s Zoo.
