Obituary

Roy F. Jensen

February 5, 1930 - January 26, 2026

Roy F. Jensen, 95, passed away January 26, 2026, in Crete, NE. He was born on February 5, 1930, to William and Bessie (Beavers) Jensen in Bennet, NE.  He was the youngest of six children.

He attended the country school (district 78) a quarter mile west of the family farm, attended high school in Bennet and post-secondary education for 2 years at Doane University (Doane college).  Roy was an outstanding athlete helping the Bennet 6-man team achieve an undefeated football season. Bennet took on Verdon in the Apple Bowl played at Nebraska City for the area championship. Baseball and track were other sports that Roy excelled in.

Roy was employed at the Lincoln Air Force Base, Offutt Air Force Base, and the Lincoln V.A. Hospital retiring in 1986. He served in the U.S. Air Force and the Air National Guard. Roy was a member of the Bennet Community Church, Eagle Lodge #147, and the American Legion #280.

Roy was a people person. He was always willing to do “what-ever was needed” to help people out. This could be mechanical issues around home, support in times of personal or family tragedy, and celebration of milestones.  He also loved the horse races.  Starting with Fonner park, he was reunited with friends and acquaintances who had the same passion.  Equally enjoyable was time spent fishing. Family celebrations or getting friends together, Roy enjoyed treating folks to his famous fish fries.

Roy is survived by his son, Brent (Anne) Jensen. Roy is preceded in death by his son, Mark Jensen; his parents, William and Bessie; brothers, Lee (Alma) Jensen, Vincent “Bud” (Mildred) Jensen, and Robert (Pauline) Jensen; and sisters, Vivian (Ivan) Genuchi and Ruth (Robert) Schoales.

A visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at Roper and Sons South Chapel (3950 Hohensee Dr., Lincoln, NE 68516).

The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Bennet Community Church (350 Monroe St, Bennet, NE 68317).

Following the funeral service, a committal service will take place at the Bennet Cemetery. A reception will be held at the church following the committal service.

Memorials are designated to Bennet Community Church, Bennet Cemetery, or Bennet Legion Post #280.
