After a short marriage, Virginia raised her two boys in Indianapolis with the help of her mother. She worked as a licensed beautician until being selected for government service, where she advanced through the ranks of the Federal Aviation Administration. Virginia retired following 31 years of service. Her duty stations included Indianapolis Center (IND), FAA Academy (OKC), Purdue University Airport tower (LAF), Terre Haute Regional tower (HUF), and Kankakee Flight Service Station (IKK).
She was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, most recently at St. James Evangelical Lutheran church in Lafayette, IN. Virginia became a member of the General de Lafayette Chapter of the Daughters Of The American Revolution, serving as its chaplain. She enjoyed researching her family genealogy, as well as aiding others with their searches. Virginia remained an avid reader of books until her final days.
Preceding her in death: her father and mother; her son, Chris V. Alyea; her brother, Jerry L. Robertson(Susan) of Boston, MA; her sister Carol Rumerfield (Edwin) of Lebanon, OR; and her brother Tom A. Robertson(Linda) of Holts Summit, MO. Surviving is her son Keith D. Alyea (Janet M. Alsup) of Lafayette, IN, as well as several nieces and nephews, and her dear friend Bonita Widmer.
A service will be held on Thursday June 4, 2026. at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran church in Eagle, NE, with Pastor Porath officiating.
