David was the kind of person who made life feel a little lighter and a lot more joyful. Known for his humor, kindness, and easygoing spirit, he had a way of making everyone around him feel welcome—often with a laugh, a story, or a shared dessert. He found great happiness in the simple things: tending to his garden, caring for his plants and trees, and spending time outdoors. A devoted dog lover, David shared a special bond with his four-legged companion, Odie, who was never far from his side. Whether he was digging in the dirt or enjoying something sweet, David lived life with a light heart and a grateful spirit.
David is lovingly reunited with his late wife, Evonne, a reunion that brings comfort to those who knew how deeply they loved one another. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and Brian McBride, children, Tyler Watkins, Nolan Watkins, and Hilary Watkins, as well as his cherished grandsons, Fulton and Townes.
He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, warmth, and love that will continue to grow in the hearts of his family. David will be remembered for his gentle soul, his playful spirit, and the way he made ordinary moments feel special. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at The East Lake Flats Clubhouse (7100 S 88th St, Lincoln, NE 68526).
David was all about keeping things light, happy, and full of joy (with maybe a little dessert on the side). In his honor, please wear bright colors, tropical vibes, or tie-dye—something fun and full of life.
