Obituary

Nancy Jolene Huckfeldt

May 19, 1934 - August 12, 2026

Nancy Jolene Huckfeldt, 92, passed away on August 12, 2026, in Lincoln, NE. She was born on May 19, 1934, to Cecil and Ruth (Rockwell) Stanley in Lincoln, NE.

Nancy graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in elementary education. She married Joe Huckfeldt on August 4, 1956, in Lincoln, Nebraska, and moved to Gering, Nebraska, where she spent the next 53 years. In 2014, Nancy re-located to Lincoln, her childhood home, to reside at the Landing. During her time in Gering, Nancy was active in her PEO chapter, serving as president for a year. She was also active in the First United Methodist Church in Gering.

A devoted wife and mother, Nancy took great joy in supporting her children. A self-described “city girl”, she never missed a 4-H event, even learning how to wield a pitchfork. Never a one-trick pony, she sat front and center at every dance and piano recital and every school concert and play. A lifelong learner and avid reader, Nancy embraced a passionate interest in European dynasties and monarchies, often reading deep into the night.

Later in her life, Nancy was a regular at Word Games, Bingo, and was a familiar face at the puzzle table. Nancy was a habitual “clipper” of interesting newspaper articles and tidbits, her favorite being the storied Hints from Heloise.

Nancy’s greatest treasure was her family. They were always first in her heart and mind. Nancy is survived by her children, Rochelle “Shelley” Erikson, Thomas (Sara) Huckfeldt, Melissa “Missy” (Brian) Noonan, and Joseph “Chip” (Della) Huckfeldt; nine grandchildren, Katherine (Anthony) Erikson, Elizabeth (Jason) Pinns, John “Jack” Erikson, Julianne (Chance) Kramer, Emily (Nick) Stokey, Samantha Noonan, Madeline (Will) McGuire, Casey (Zane) Mackey, and Sydney Huckfeldt; 10 great-grandchildren; and sister, Priscilla Crithfield. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Joseph, and sister, Susan Eno.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, August 17, 2026, with a reception to follow at Roper and Sons South Chapel (3950 Hohensee Dr, Lincoln, NE 68516). A private burial will take place at a later date.

Memorials are designated to the Arbor Day Foundation.
