Obituary

Eames Irvin

January 1, 1928 - December 19, 2012

Eames Irvin, 84, of Lincoln, died Wednesday, December 19, 2012. Eames attended North Platte High School and graduated from the University of Nebraska College of Business Administration in 1950. After graduation, he enlisted in the Navy to pursue his life-long love of flying. After becoming a Naval Aviator, he flew in an anti-submarine squadron stationed in Quonset Point, Rhode Island. He continued to fly in the Navy Reserve while beginning his banking career in Lincoln, first with Continental National Bank and later First National Bank of Lincoln. He is a 1967 graduate of the University of Wisconsin Graduate School of Banking.

In 1976, Eames joined Citizen State Bank and served as president until the bank’s merger with two other Lincoln banks in 1985. He then joined Kirkpatrick Pettis as an investment banker, working with both individual and institutional investors. He continued to serve his clients in this capacity at Smith Hayes Financial Services until his retirement at age 79 in 2007.

A great appreciator of fine design, his civic involvement included many years on the City of Lincoln Urban Design Committee, as well as service as treasurer for community organizations, including the Girl Scouts and the Lions Club. He was president of the Lincoln University Club, and for 18 years was chapter advisor to his fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon.

Eames loved his work, and also loved planting trees, regular breakfast and lunch groups with friends, fine wine, dogs, and children (provided they were related to him). He will be remembered by family and friends as a stickler for details, an impeccable dresser, and above all, a gentleman.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years Margery (Midge), children John Irvin of Shenandoah, Iowa, William and Vaishali Irvin of St. Louis, Susan and Stephen Dinsmore of Lincoln, Thomas Irvin of Omaha, and grandchildren Emily Evnen, Carter Irvin and his wife Elyse, Eli Evnen, Sadye Evnen, and Anjuli Irvin.

A Memorial Service will be held at First-Plymouth Congregational Church on Thursday, December 27 at 11:00.

Visitation will be held at Roper & Sons on Wednesday, December 26 from 2:00 to 8:00, with the family receiving friends from 4:00 to 6:00.

Memorials to Sigma Alpha Epsilon Foundation, 1856 Sheridan Road, Evanston, IL 60201 or Arbor Day Foundation, 211 N. 12th Street, Suite 501, Lincoln, NE 68508.
