A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Don served honorably from 1962 to 1966, earning the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class. A long-time co-owner of vonRentzell Van and Storage in Greenwood, he proudly carried on the legacy of the business founded by his father in 1958. Following his honorable service in the U.S. Navy, Don returned home to farm near McLean, Nebraska. It was there he met the love of his life, Marilyn, who lived nearby. The two were united in marriage on November 16, 1968, in Randolph, Nebraska. Together, they established a life on a small acreage outside of Ashland, where they raised their six sons, before later building their dream home near Waverly—a place filled with cherished memories and many happy years together.
Family members include his wife, Marilyn; sons Earl (Sandy), Omaha, Eric (Jody), Ashland, Kurt (Laura), Murdock, Kevin (Michelle), Troy, all of Lincoln, and Travis (Mary), Hickman; 6 grandchildren; brothers George (Winifred), Greenwood and Richard (Kathy), Lincoln; nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, grandson Tucker and daughter-in-law Becky.

Funeral service: 10:30 am Friday, September 18, 2026, Roper and Sons Waverly Chapel, 10851 N. 148th St. Burial 2:30 pm, September 21, 2026 at Omaha National Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-7:30 pm Thursday, September 17, 2026, Roper and Sons Waverly Chapel.
