She grew up on a farm near Walton, Nebraska, and graduated from Eagle High School in 1954. Following graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, Keith G. Schaepe on November 20, 1954. Carleen and Keith moved to San Diego, California, where Keith served on the USS Shields. They returned to Nebraska after Keith completed his tour of duty with the US Navy in 1956. She and Keith made their home in the northeast area of Lincoln. Carleen moved into Gold Crest Retirement Center in Adams, Nebraska in 2013.
She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in northeast Lincoln, and an active member of the University of Nebraska Extension Club of Lancaster County, serving in leadership roles for many years. Carleen will be remembered for her love of family and the Nebraska way of life. She loved visiting the family farm in Walton Nebraska. She was a woman who quietly lived her life knowing and loving her God, and in loyal service to her husband and family.
She is survived by a son, Gary (Sharyl) Schaepe, Walton, Nebraska; Grandchildren, Keith Schaepe, Shon (Lorie) Covington, Colleen Bade; Great-grandchildren, Gabriella (Jake) Field, Ethan Covington, Tristan, Teagan, and Taryn Bade; Brother: Marvin Kemper, and many nieces and nephews. She was especially close to her nephews Mike (Sandy) Kemper, Mark (Lisa) Kemper, and Matt Kemper
She was preceded in death by her husband, Keith Schaepe; Parents, Ernest and Marie Kemper; Brothers, Noel Kemper and Donald Kemper.
Memorials may be directed to the family for a future designation.
A visitation will be held on Monday, November 28th from 5 – 7 p.m. at Roper and Son’s Midtown Chapel (4300 ‘O’ Street, Lincoln, NE).
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 29th at 1 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church (5315 S 162nd St, Walton, NE). Reception to follow.
