Cameron was the beloved son of Frederick and Jean Slane, who raised him with love, steadfast values, and a deep sense of community. Growing up in Colorado Springs, Cameron walked the halls of Howbert Elementary School, where his curiosity and warmth first endeared him to classmates and teachers alike. He went on to Holmes Middle School, and later graduated from Coronado High School, where the friendships and memories he made left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
After high school, Cameron made his way to Fort Collins, where he began a career in food services. What started with making pizza grew into a true calling — he became an excellent cook and restaurant manager, earning the respect of colleagues and the loyalty of regulars. He moved back to Colorado Springs in 2021. In time, he found his way to Lincoln, Nebraska, where he brought that same dedication and warmth to a new chapter as a bookseller at Sower Books. Cameron had a love of reading and a natural gift for connecting people with the right book at the right moment.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Cameron remember him for his generous spirit, quick smile, and the ease with which he made everyone around him feel welcome. He had a gift for bringing people together, and the lives he touched were made richer for it. Cameron’s passions were simple and genuine: music — which he returned to again and again — reading, and above all, time spent with family and friends. He was also devoted to his cat, Shere Khan, who was a constant companion.
Cameron is survived by his parents, Frederick and Jean Slane; his brothers, Alex Slane and John Slane; his grandmother, Peggy Howey; and many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins. He leaves behind a family and circle of friends whose grief is matched only by the profound gratitude they carry for every moment shared with him.
Memorial Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on April 19, 2026 at Chapel of Our Saviour, 8 4th St, Colorado Springs, CO 80906.
