Richard Dean Longacre

July 16, 1933 - August 30, 2026

Richard Dean Longacre, 93, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away on August 30, 2026, in Lincoln, NE.  Richard was born on July 16, 1933, in Omaha, Nebraska. His parents were Allan and Maxine (Moore) Longacre.

Richard lived a life marked by service, compassion, and dedication to others. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he continued to give his time and talents to his community. He was actively involved with The Arc of Lincoln (advocating with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities) as a board member, advocate and later as Executive Director.

He served in numerous capacities at Eastmont Towers in Lincoln. His willingness to help others and his commitment to his community touched the lives of many.

Richard cherished his family and the life they shared together. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joan; daughter, Cindy (Cliff) Switzer; son, Mark (Kathy) Longacre; sister, Cheryl Estes; brother, Allan Longacre; sister, Florine LaRue; sister-in-law, Betty LaRue; 5 grandchildren: Kellen (Kelly) Petersen, Katie (Nathan) Fowler, Heidi (Alex) Bentle, Matt (Mallory) Longacre, and Adam (Paige) Longacre; 8 great-grandchildren: Braxton Petersen, Archer Petersen, Ryker Petersen, Grayson Fowler, Moriah Fowler, Wyatt Longacre, Blake Longacre, and Juliet Longacre; nieces, Jodi Estes, Kim Longacre (James Foster), and Kate (Don) Harvey; great-nieces and nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, Allan and Maxine Longacre; his son, Steve Longacre; his nephew, Jeff Estes; his sister-in-law, Barb Longacre; and his brother, Gary LaRue.

Richard will be remembered for his caring nature, his willingness to serve, and the many ways he made a difference in the lives of those around him. He leaves behind cherished memories that will remain with his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A memorial service celebrating Richard’s life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026, at the Eastmont Performing Arts Center, 6315 O Street, Lincoln, NE 68510.
