Verda’s working life included being a Lincoln Telephone Company telephone operator with her twin sister in Hebron, later working in downtown Lincoln at the Lincoln Hotel as a PBX Operator and at the Capital Hotel lunch counter. Years later after marriage, Verda worked at the Prescott Elementary school cafeteria in addition to being a housewife and mother. Verda also kept the books for her husband’s farm in Nuckolls County. Verda had an indomitable spirit as matriarch of her family. Verda married John Verle
Williams on March 12, 1950, in Sutton. They had three children: John Windsor Williams, Marlene Kay Williams, and Glenn Le Roy Williams. They lost Marlene at eight months old due to pneumonia while at Children’s Hospital in Omaha for Marlene’s heart surgery.
Verda is survived by her son Glenn Williams and several nieces and nephews she adored.
Visitation: 5 to 7 pm on Thursday, September 3, 2026, Roper and Sons South Lincoln Chapel, 3950 Hohensee Drive (near S 40th St and Yankee Hill Road).
Funeral: 11 am Friday, September 4 at Southview Christian Church at 2040 S 22nd St (S 22nd St at South St).
Burial: 2 pm Friday, September 4 at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials: Family, Live On Nebraska (tissue donation), or to Nebraska Medicine for vascular dementia research.
