John served in the U. S. Air Force during the Vietnam War (1961-1965). He worked for Burden Sales as production shop manager.
John was a member of the Havelock United Methodist Church, Rock Creek Renegades, Scottish Rite, Columbia Chapter #275, O.E.S. and past master of Cotner Lodge #297, A.F. & A.M.
Family members include his wife, Linda; daughter Nicole (Rick) Mariscal and son Matthew (Bradi) Laird, all of Lincoln; stepchildren Jennie (Justin) Anderson, Ben (Megan) Murphy, Sr., Lincoln, Bart (Beth) Murphy, Columbus, OH, and Brad (Romi) Murphy, Palo Alto, CA; grandchildren Austin, Siera, and Tessa Mariscal, Carter and Marek Laird, Rowan (Mitchell) Champoux,; step grandchildren, Myah (Ethan) Kreikemeier and McCray Anderson, Jordan Peppmuller, Leighton and Brexton Murphy, Ben Murphy, Jr., Emma Gubbels, Amelia Murphy, Riley Murphy, Mera Murphy, and Mave Murphy; 6 great grandchildren; brother Raymond (Linda) Laird, Schenectady, NY. Preceded in death by his parents and first wife Dorothy “Renee”.
