Rev. Augustus Tietbohl

September 3, 1924 - October 22, 2021

It is with great sadness and in the joy of the resurrection we announce the death of Rev. Augustus Tietbohl early this morning (10/22/2021). Pastor Tietbohl was pastor of St. John’s during their 75th Anniversary Celebration in 1957.

After being discharged from the Army following WWII, Pastor Tietbohl enrolled at Susquehanna University in Snyder County, where he majored in English literature. Then he attended Gettysburg Lutheran Seminary, focusing on New Testament studies.

After being ordained May 27, 1951 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Williamsport, Pastor Tietbohl took his first assignment: Faith Lutheran Church, a congregation in the Fishtown section of Philadelphia, for 3 years. Then he came here to us at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Nanticoke for eight years. In 1990, Pastor Tietbohl retired after 28 years as the pastor at New Jerusalem Lutheran Church in Lower Saucon.

Our prayers are with Josephine, his wife of 68 years and their family.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 26th at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. No visitation. Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 27th at 2:00 p.m. at the Omaha National Cemetery.

Family members include his wife Josephine; son Mark (Deb) Tietbohl; grandchildren Michael (Ana) Judd, Amy (Jon) Lieberman, Joshua (Kim) Geier, Laura Rasche, Lisa (Collin) Ross; great-grandchildren Zachary, Matteo, and Luna Judd, Richard Lieberman, Guiliana and Joseph Geier, Natalie, Roy, Ethan, and Donavan Rasche, Cannon, Shaylin, Tatum, and Nala Ross; sister Maryann (Robert) Hoover and family; sister-in-law Susan Tietbohl and family; son-in-law Arden Geier; nephew William Fenstermacher (Sandy) and family; and niece Cheryl (Tim) Badman and family. Preceded in death by his parents, brother Ralph, and children Joel Andrew and Diane Ellen.

Memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church in lieu of flowers.
