Janice grew up working on the family farm, and it was just outside Hanover, at the Pony Express, that she began what would become a lifelong career in food service. In 1970 she moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where she continued in the industry, forming lasting friendships and earning recognition for her outstanding service along the way.
In 1979 she met Ryan, and after a brief courtship they married later that year. They remained partners in life and best friends for the rest of her days.
A lifelong Lutheran, Janice was steadfast in her faith throughout her life. She found great joy in singing hymns, and her faith was a source of strength and comfort to her always.
Janice never met a stranger. She loved a good conversation and enjoyed reminiscing about days gone by. She had a gift for making others feel heard, and she enjoyed getting to know the stories of the people around her. Her warmth and love of people drew others to her throughout her life.
From 1984 to 2006, Janice worked at McDonald’s in Lincoln. To her, it was never just a job. She served every customer with pride, warmth, and a strong work ethic, and many regulars came in “just to see Jan.” Her dedication earned her a place among the top 25 customer service professionals in Lincoln, an honor that was featured in the local newspaper.
Janice is survived by her husband, Ryan; daughter, Amber Briley; grandson, Eli Brown; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother; her brother, Rodney Meyer; and her sister-in-law, Leona.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, at Faith Lutheran Church, 8701 Adams St., Lincoln, Nebraska.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
