Obituary

Phyllis Maxine Hyde

December 6, 1931 - September 24, 2026

Phyllis Maxine Hyde, 94, of Lincoln, NE passed away September 24, 2026.

She was born on December 6, 1931, to Otto and Freda (Cramer) Heeckt in Storm Lake, IA.  She is formerly of Columbus, NE and York, NE.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Lynn (Ole) Friesen and Harvey Hyde, Jr.; grandchildren, Jason (Kisha) Hyde, Nick (Jennifer) Hyde, and Alice (Mark) Lau; six great-grandchildren, Zander and Zavier Hyde, Esten, Emma and Eva Hyde, Ash Lau; brother, Paul (Kay) Koeppen; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her husbands, Harvey Hyde, Sr., David Scow and partner, Albert Irvin.  She is also preceded in death by her parents, brother, John Heeckt, and sister, MaryAnn Svoboda.

Phyllis’ family moved to Lincoln as she entered 7th grade and then graduated from Lincoln Northeast in 1948 at 16.  She attended UNL on a scholarship and by working and completed a Business Administration Major in 1952.

Phyllis was a life-long learner.  She sewed professionally and took classes to learn more advanced projects. She became a realtor after Lynn and Harvey, Jr were out of school.  When others were playing bridge, Phyllis took classes to be able to participate in the social groups.  MaryAnn and Phyllis planned a trip to Germany for a tour and Mom learned German first and tracked down cousins whose father had stayed in Germany when their father emigrated to the US that they were able to meet.

Phyllis was an active member of the church wherever she lived. She was a 52 year member of the Daughters of the Nile.  Sesostris Shrine has been an important part of her life through Harvey’s involvement in York and Columbus and through the Widows Club in Lincoln.

But above all that, her family was the most important part of her life – immediate and extended.  Having everyone together for holidays was very important, but the little visits made memories too.  As active as she was, there was always time for family.

Share a Memory or Condolence

October 3, 2026

I have known the Hyde family for over 50 years. I know Phyllis through her daughter and son in law Lynn and Ole. In my several associations with her over the years she was always a very proper lady with a friendly outreach to everyone she encountered. I know that there was much love in her family. In knowing her daughter I know that Phyllis made the world a better place and left a legacy of love and engaged motherhood that will serve her family and future generations well. My condolences to the family. Moms are special and Phyllis was a special mom and friend to many.
