Obituary

Margaret Metz

June 1, 1953 - September 24, 2022

Margaret Metz, 69, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by family, on Saturday September 24th, 2022.

Margaret was born June 1st, 1953, in Springfield, Illinois, to John “Nonnie” and Mary Miller. Margaret married David Metz, of Springfield, Illinois, on June 1st, 1974.

Margaret and David moved to North Platte, Nebraska, in 1978 where they were members of Holy Spirit Parish, and then to Lincoln, Nebraska, in 2001 where they became members of North American Martyrs Parish. Her passions included caring for her family, cooking, gardening, and volunteering. She eagerly searched for opportunities to serve others, including serving as a Den Mother for Cub Scout Pack 292, organizing fundraising events for her children’s schools, and volunteering at Haymarket Children’s Theater. Her witty sense of humor, hand written notes, and acts of generosity will be deeply missed.

Margaret loved creative writing and gifting children’s books to families who were expecting a child. In lieu of flowers, we hope you will join us in honoring her memory by donating a children’s book in her name. Please feel free to do so either in your community, by having it shipped to Katie Rector (address below), or by bringing your favorite children’s book to her viewing or funeral. All books received by us will be donated to the pediatric unit of Bryan Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.

She is survived by her husband David Metz; son Carl Metz; daughter Katherine (husband, Joshua) Rector; daughter Mary Grace Metz; granddaughter Lillian Rector; brother John (wife, Pat) Miller; sister Mary (husband, Ray) Hanna-Long; brother Tom (wife, Ann) Miller; brother William “Willie” Miller; sister Joanne (husband, Jim) Buck; brother Carl Miller; and sister-in-law Pam Miller.

She was preceded in death by her parents John “Nonnie” and Mary Miller; granddaughter Abigail Rector; and brother Jim Miller.

Visitation with viewing will be at Roper and Sons Funeral Home on Friday October 7th, 2022, from 5pm-7pm with rosary to follow starting at 7pm. Cremation services to follow.

Funeral mass will be Saturday October 8th, 2022, at 10 am at North American Martyrs Catholic Church. Burial service to follow at Calvary Cemetery. After the burial service, a celebration of life will be held at The Flats at Shadow Creek.
