Mabel Elaine (Pierson) Davis, 90 years old of Lincoln, died early Thursday morning, July 8, 2010, at Tabitha Health Care Alzheimers Solarium
Born August 12, 1919 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Arthur E. Pierson and Jessie (Hendricks) Pierson. Mabel was in the middle of sisters Wilva and Jean. In 1937, Mabel graduated from Lincoln High School and attended The University of Nebraska-Lincoln until marrying her sweetheart Don (Lloyd) Davis on March 14, 1942.
During college, Mabel was active in The University Singers with a trained alto voice. She also enjoyed singing in the original East Lincoln Christian Choir.
Mabel briefly lived in Pueblo, CO before moving back to Lincoln with the deployment of Don in WWII. Following WWII, the couple moved to Holdrege and then onto Kearney before returning to Lincoln to reside. During this time Mabel and Don were blessed with their three wonderful children: Gary, Steve and Nancy.
Mabel volunteered at Bryan Hospital for several years teaching art at the inpatient Psychological Unit. She also served as a judge at the State Fair, FFA and 4-H in young girl’s textiles.
What Mabel is best known for is her excellent needlework talent. Her generous spirit allowed many to be recipients of her knitted clothing, blankets, quilts and handiwork.
Devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, caring, loving, witty humored, talented all describe Mabel’s life. She truly loved people and inspired anyone she met.
Preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Wilva. Mabel is survived by her devoted husband Don of 68 years of marriage, sister Jean Harris and husband Robert, sister-in-law Mary Yekel and husband Henry, son Gary and daughter-in-law Pam, son Steve and daughter-in-law Wendy, daughter Nancy and son-in-law Richard, 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
A private burial precede The Celebration of Life Service on Monday, July 12th at 2:00 p.m. which will be held at Crestwood Christian Church, 8000 A Street, Lincoln. Condolences may be sent to 4548 High Street, Lincoln, NE 68506.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Great Plains Chapter of The Alzheimers Association, 1500 S. 70th, Suite 201, Lincoln, NE 68506, or Crestwood Christian Church.
Open visitation will be from noon until 8:00 p.m. Sunday only at Roper and Sons, 4300, ‘O’ Street.
