Obituary

Kelley Johnson Rodriguez

June 18, 1982 - November 16, 2022

Kelley Johnson Rodriguez was a caring and beloved wife, mother, daughter, family member, and friend. She passed away on November 16, 2022, at the age of 40.

Kelley was born on June 18, 1982, to Ronald and Sally Johnson (now Reed) in Des Moines, Iowa.

From a young age, Kelley was bright and athletic.  She excelled in school, ultimately earning a Florida “Bright Futures” scholarship due to her academic achievements.  Anybody who knew her, however, would agree that she reserved a special love and talent for athletics, where she excelled in soccer, cross-country, and track; ultimately setting several school records, competing at the state-level, and always competing at the highest levels.

Upon graduating from Sarasota High School in Florida, Kelley briefly attended Elon College before settling at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL.  She completed her Bachelor’s in Psychology and went to work for Mizuno USA Running. She immediately made a name for herself at the company and was a valuable member of the Mizuno brand for the next 18 years in several different locations and capacities.

But, more than anything, Kelley was passionate about raising and supporting her four children George, Millie, Frances, and Luisa. She encouraged their growth in academics, athletics, and fostered a well-cultivated love for competition.  Her love for her husband and children was always at the forefront of her life; she would spare no effort or expense to ensure her family was loved and provided for, first and always. Kelley was, and forever will be, loved by her family and friends.

Kelley was preceded in death by her father, Ronald Johnson; her grandparents, Arnold & Arlette Johnson and Herbert & Jean Hamilton. She is survived by her husband, Matthew, and their four children, George, Millie, Frances, and Luisa; her mother and stepfather, Sally and Thomas Reed; her brother and sister-in-law, Dustin and Sirese Johnson; her nephew and niece, Jack and Hattie Johnson, as well as all of her extended family members will miss her dearly.

A visitation will be held from 5pm-7pm on Monday, November 21, 2022 at Roper and Sons South Chapel (3950 Hohensee Dr.)

A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00am on November 22, 2022 at Trinity United Methodist Church.

I have so many incredible memories of Kelley. She was an amazing co-worker for ten years, teacher, loving mother, true friend and an authentic person. Some of my best memories with Kelley are from a Yoga retreat we went on in Mexico. There were strict rules which included long hot Yoga classes, 24 hours of silence, clean raw diet, no technology, and long stretches of meditation. Kelley and I were “all in” and had decided to embrace the Yogi life during this retreat. But there was one thing Kelley drew the line at and when we got to our hut, she pulled out of her bag packages of instant coffee she had smuggled in. I never loved Kelly so much in that moment! I have memories from every time we got together; she is unforgettable. Kelley had a deepness and trueness about her that is hard to explain. Kelley was a real honor to know, and her family will be in my prayers daily.

Like so many have said there really are no words to express my utter sorrow and shattered heart at the loss of such an incredible, vibrant human being. Kelley went at life with all she had. She never met a stranger. Treated everyone with love and respect. She cared deeply and honestly. I have SO many amazing memories and moments in our friendship that I will cherish forever. I feel so lucky to have them. It was an honor to be her friend and I will, with everything I have, help to keep her memory alive and to continuously share with her children all the moments we had together. I love you George, Millie, Frances, Luisa, Matthew and Family. Lives forever changed but your mommy/Kelley will always be with you. Her strength is your strength. She’s in your hearts and she will always guide you 💞💞 Praying for your continued strength and peace for always and ever. Love: Sara and Sean, Kylie & Kaleb Pittman

I will miss Kelley always. She was a great person, a loving mother, and wife while also being a friend. She was a great daughter. We had lot’s of times were we would just sit and visit while the kids played, and I will miss her dearly. May she rest in peace. Love you always.

Kelley was the best mama-cheering on George on the soccer field, while snuggling the baby and managing the other kids. Always a positive word, and energy to share. Your Sting family will rally around your family Kelley! 💙

To the Rodriguez and Johnson Family, I worked with Kelley briefly at Mizuno and remember her kindness, competitive drive, and commitment. She is a bright light that is hard to forget. I knew her before children but imagine she gave that light to all those that loved her, especially to her babies. I’m so deeply sorry for the loss you have endured. All my prayers to you, The Wilkens Family
