Rex L. May

Rex L. May, 86, Lincoln, passed away November 25, 2018. Born July 8, 1932 in Collinsville, Mississippi to Leonard and Jewel (Townsend) May.

Rex proudly served his country from 1949-1970 in the United States Air Force. Rex served in Korea and Vietnam retiring as a Master Sergeant E8. Rex married Dora Montoya on October 19, 1956 in Albuquerque, NM. They raised a family of 6 while stationed in multiple countries and continents. After retiring, he worked for the U. S. Postal Service as a postal carrier until he and Dora ventured into the restaurant business. From 1972 to 1992 they owned Mays, Casey Jones, and the Popcorn Place.

After selling the restaurants Rex volunteered at the Strategic Air Museum leading tours while sharing personal experiences of the planes he worked on. He also volunteered with The Highway Angels assisting the Nebraska State Patrol with roadside assistance. Rex enjoyed his garden, feeding squirrels peanuts on his back deck, hunting and fishing, and sitting around just talking.

Family members include his wife of 62 years, Dora May; daughters Deborah Lynn (Gale) Huenink, Brenda Farrington and Lisa Marie (Todd) Gerdes; sons Kevin May and Keith (Michele) May; grandchildren Wendy Wright, Raymond Scott, Jr., Melissa Klassen, Virginia Bauers, Teresa Hauck, James Hauck, Brooklyn Morgan, Walker Gerdes, Dylan and Kellan May; 14 great-grandchildren; sister Blanche Mindell; brother Carey Williamson. Preceded in death by his son Stuart Rex May.

Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Thursday (11-29-18) Roper and Sons Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ Street with Pastor Rusty Miller officiating. Burial in Omaha National Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association, 1540 S. 70th, Ste 100, Lincoln, NE 68506.

Visitation one hour prior to service time.
