Mary Lou Hanson

January 8, 1929 - April 17, 2024

Mary Lou Hanson, 95, of Lincoln passed away April 17, 2024. Born January 8, 1929, in Seward, NE to Arthur and Hilda (Ketter) Sommer.

Mary Lou attended Wichita High School, received both her bachelor’s and master’s degree in music from University of Nebraska-Lincoln and took an additional 36 hours in media studies. She was a singer and an educator mostly in Lincoln Public Schools where she taught at Dawes Jr. High School and then Everett and Park Middle Schools.

Mary Lou raised two daughters: Tracy and Kristin. She loved to travel, dance, knit, and play bridge. She was a member of the First Plymouth Church, Lincoln Education Association Retired, Lincoln Area Retired Teachers Association, Lincoln Symphony Guild, and was a Meals-On-Wheels volunteer.

Family members include daughters Tracy (David) Sands, Lincoln and Kristin (Douglas) Pauley, Hastings; grandchildren Katie Sands, Michael Sands, Bryan Pauley, Scott Pauley, and Lauran Pauley; great-grandchildren Hannah and Lilly Pauley.

Preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Memorial service: 11:00 am Saturday, May 11, 2024, First Plymouth Church, 2000 D Street.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to First Plymouth Church, Food Bank of Lincoln, Peoples City Mission, Matt Talbott Kitchen, or donor’s choice.
