Eugene E. “Gene” Nelson, 84, Lincoln, passed away January 4, 2018. Born July 22, 1933 in Hastings, NE to Ervin and Viola (Monson) Nelson. Ret. Electrician for Western Electric/AT&T. Gene was a member of First-Plymouth Congregational Church of Christ, IBEW, Lincoln Trap and Skeet Club. He volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, an avid Nebraska Football fan, skilled woodworker, auction enthusiast, hunter, and fisherman.
Family members include his wife, Shirley; daughter, Kathy (Richard) Hoffart; son, Gary E. (Su) Nelson; daughters, Susan (Jeff) Hertzler, all of Lincoln, Sharon (Mike) Rehn, Lake Waconda, NE; 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Darlene “Dolly” Aschwege.
Memorial Service: 11:30 a.m. Wednesday (1-10-18) First-Plymouth Chapel, 2000 D Street with Rev. Barb Smisek officiating. Prior private family interment.
Family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Roper and Sons, 4300 ‘O’ Street.
