Donald L. Ptacek

Donald L. Ptacek, 90, of Lincoln passed away on July 10, 2017 surrounded by his family. Born December 4, 1926 to John and Mary (Mares) Ptacek in Garrison, NE. He was a graduate of Dwight Public Schools where he enjoyed playing bass with the school band. He was a member of the Dwight basketball team where they won numerous tournaments and acquired many trophies. During this time he also worked for farmers in the Dwight area and enjoyed repairing cars. He is also a member of St. John the Apostle Church.

On June 6, 1950, he married Helen Dobrusky at the Dwight Assumption Church. Shortly thereafter they moved to Lincoln, NE and he began working for F.D. Wilson Sales Company as an automotive parts delivery person. He soon advanced to shipping and receiving clerk and then to counter sales. In 1963 he began working for the L.J. Messer Company as an assistant store manager for automotive repair parts. The company changed hands to Big A and he became a sales representative and enjoyed the travel, meeting people and helping Automotive repair shops diagnose problems. In 1991 he retired from sales after more than 41 years.

Donald is survived by his wife of 67 years, Helen Ptacek; sons, David (Laurie) Ptacek, and Daniel Ptacek; grandchildren, Rachel and Timothy; numerous nieces, and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents; sister, Loretta (Warren) Brighton; brothers, Richard (Marie) Ptacek, and Jerold Ptacek.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Thursday (7-13-17) at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 7601 Vine St. Visitation with family greeting friends will be held from 6-7p.m. on Wednesday (7-12-17) at Roper and Sons Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ St. with a Rosary Service at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Burial at Lincoln Memorial Park.
