Obituary

Lorraine Buch

February 15, 1936 - October 14, 2026

Lorraine Buch, age 90, died on Oct. 14, 2026. Lorraine and Nile lived at Savannah Pines, Lincoln, NE. She was born on Feb. 15, 1936, in Cherokee, Iowa. Her parents were Geraldine and Alfred Boldt. Her brother was Benjamin who was 3 years older.

She likes to recall her association with Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church in Calumet, Iowa. She is a graduate of Buena Vista College, Storm Lake, Iowa. She was an employee of the Iowa Public Service Company in Cherokee, Iowa. Lorraine was a 3rd grade schoolteacher at Storm Lake and Mapleton, Iowa and Hillside, Illinois. She reminded folks often that “repetition” is the motherhood of learning. 4-H provided her with lots of outstanding good practical training.

Lorraine was married to Nile Buch on June 16, 1962. Their 3 children are Renee (Curtis Brinkmann), Kendra (Phil Carlson), and Marshall (Amy). Lorraine and Caroline Peterson enjoyed playing piano organ duets at worship services in Palmer, Kansas. Lorraine and Nile had a leadership role in 21 different churches in a 50-year period. Lorraine had 16 musical selections that she could play without needing the notes on paper. Her family looked forward to her singing Happy Birthday to them on the telephone each year. Her favorite author was Jan Karon who said, “Easter is not deserved.” That is because it is an unearned expression of God’s love.” She was a devoted pastor’s wife and enjoyed team teaching confirmation classes with Nile. She was a spectacular “proofreader” and “spiritual advisor.” Application of the Gospel of Christ was important. Lorraine always kept Nile, as a pastor, keenly aware of the “Messiah Complex.” She was an ISFJ personality type meaning that she was introverted, sensing, feeling and judging. Lorraine likes to tell about the last day of school when she slid down the school’s unique stairway banister and the $20 she had to pay for a piano bench. Her Biblical Motto was James 1:2 which puts the focus on the value of trials and tribulations.

Her 5 grandchildren are Tyson, Abigail, Erica, Madilyn and Chandler…..Her 6 great grandchildren are Braxton, Elsie, Boston, Brewer, Lucan, and Alaina. Lorraine had good self-worth and did not depend on others to give her value.

Thanks to Visiting Angels and HoriSun Hospice for your care and compassion.  We are forever grateful to all of you!

Lorraine’s celebration of life will be held at 10am on Saturday, October 24 at Roper & Sons South Chapel (3950 Hohensee Dr, Lincoln, NE). A light lunch will follow immediately following the service.

Memorials to Southwood Lutheran Church.
