Lavawn Marie (Edwards) Farnstrom, 96, was called to home to rest in God’s care on March 30, 2026. Lavawn was born January 25, 1930, in Gothenburg, NE, to Oliver and Verna (Preitauer) Edwards. She grew up on farms in Custer County and graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1947. She attended business school in Denver, CO. On February 25, 1949, she married Roy Farnstrom and together they built their first home in Omaha, NE. They raised three children and opened their home and hearts to several foster children. Roy and Lavawn returned to Gothenburg, where Lavawn was an active volunteer for the Red Cross and Meals on Wheels for many years. Our beloved mother was a friend to many; a devoted wife, mom and grandma.

Lavawn is survived by her children, Kim (Tweety) Farnstrom of Ord, NE; Jana (Don) Cockerham of Lincoln, NE; Amy (Stewart) Courant, Oakland, CA; grandchildren, Jon Cockerham, Lincoln, NE; Emily Courant of Oakland, CA. Preceded in death by her parents and her husband Roy.

Celebration of Life Service to be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 25, 2026 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 725 S. 14th Street, Ord, NE. Luncheon to follow.

Memorials may be given to St. John’s Lutheran Church or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
