Obituary

Kenneth D. TenHulzen

March 7, 1941 - June 29, 2026

Kenneth D. TenHulzen, of Lincoln, passed away peacefully at his home June 29, 2026, at 85. Ken was born March 7, 1941, in Lincoln and was a lifelong resident.

Ken graduated from Lincoln Southeast High School (inaugural class student council member and helped choose the Knights mascot and black/gold school colors).  He attended the University of Nebraska – Lincoln.

Ken loved sports (gymnastics and golf), bird hunting, and music (piano and trumpet), but nothing compared to his love for family, including his wife Judy, his 3 children (Michael, Jeani, and Richard), 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Florence and Richard, brother Clayton and wife Judy.

Ken was the President & CEO of First National Life Insurance Company of the USA for over 30 years before retiring in 2014. Ken served on many boards such as the Superintendent’s Advisory Council for SPED (acoustically handicapped and mainstreamed) at Prescott Elementary, Irving Middle School and Southeast High School. He also served at Lincoln Country Club (President), Lincoln Municipal Golf Association (President) and NE Golf Association and Foundation (Director, inner-city golf competition). He had a lifetime love for the game of golf (playing with a low or scratch handicap and on nearly every major golf course in the world). His children have fond memories of many days on the course with him.

A memorial service will be held at Roper and Sons South Chapel, 3950 Hohensee Drive, on Friday, July 3 at 10am. Livestream available at Roperandsons.com/livestream.

When I was 6, my uncle Ken was about 16. He took me everywhere with him, when my younger brother and I visited in the summer. Even racing Karman Gia’s 🙂 and I was sworn to secrecy. I loved him sooo much! He was very special to me. I called him often and as late as last Saturday evening, we talked by Facetime and he told me he loved me and I told him the same. I will miss my Uncle Ken dearly. He was one in a million!

Roger and I attendedLincoln Southeast High School with Ken and remember him so well and happily. So talented, in so many ways, and a genuinely nice human being. In the last few years, Roger and I were in touch with Ken and recall how very very proud he was of his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. May he rest in peace.
