Margaret (Rosanne) Rose Ruby

December 6, 1937 - November 25, 2024

Margaret (Rosanne) Rose Ruby, 86 passed away peacefully on November 25th, 2024, surrounded by family

She was born December 6th, 1937 in McCook, NE to Margaret and Joseph Hassler. Rosanne married her high school sweetheart and fellow McCook Bison, Richard in 1959.

Rosanne attended McCook College and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. During her 40+-year career, she taught Social Studies and English in several Catholic schools in Lincoln, including St. Theresa’s, St. John’s, Blessed Sacrament and St. Joseph’s. For those of you who experienced diagramming sentences with her, please know she had her family doing it at the dinner table too (where our grammar was regularly analyzed and corrected).

She was an avid reader and writer who always surrounded herself with books. Rosanne loved to travel and share travel experiences with family. The places she visited include all 50 states, Ireland, France, England, Mexico and Canada. Collecting coffee mugs from the places she visited and for special occasions brought her great joy.

Rosanne was a beloved wife, mother, sister and friend. She is survived by her husband Richard, son Jon, daughter Michelle (Koester), brother Dan Hassler and grandson Jacob Barta. Rosanne was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Thomas Hassler, Mary (Derauf) and daughter Nancy (Barta).

Share a Memory or Condolence

She was the BEST grammar teacher, and played a part in my career path. Diagramming sentences on her chalkboard is a core memory of mine. Even though I was quiet, she picked up on my sense of humor right away which meant a lot to me. She will be missed and remembered

Ruby Family, My deepest sympathy for your loss. I’ve thought about your family often and wondered about you all. Rosanne was an awesome teacher. The students and staff enjoyed and benefited from working and being taught by her. May the Lord give you comfort and peace in your time of bereavement
