Being a stay-at-home Mom soon meant Boy and Girl Scout leader, Sunday school teacher and supporter on the sidelines of whatever activity was being played. Carole became a member of Federated Woman’s Club and was active in the organization for many years. Also, Carole joined the Order of the Eastern Star (OES), Palisade Chapter #318, in October of 1962. She enjoyed serving in the appointed and elected offices of the Chapter. In 1970, she was named a District Supervisor of Nebraska Grand Chapter helping members in a number of Chapters throughout the state in their duties as officers in their Chapters. She served in several elected positions in the Eastern Star, becoming Worthy Grand Matron of the Nebraska Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, in 1979-80. Her current memberships were in Alpha Chapter # 325, Bellevue, NE, and Harmony Chapter #4, Honolulu, HI.
It was through such fraternal memberships that Carole and James (Jim) DeMoss met. They were married in the Fall of 1981. Carole welcomed Jim’s children, Deby Starrett (husband Steve, sons JaMike and Christopher) and Tish DeMoss (partner Michael Campbell) as her daughters (and family). Following Jim’s retirement from Omaha State Bank and serving in Fraternal obligations including Grand Master of the Nebraska Grand Lodge, Ancient Free & Accepted Masons, the couple moved to Hawai’i where they lived for over 22 years and were very active in various masonic-related activities and organizations. It was while there that Carole was tapped by Eastern Star General Grand Chapter to serve as the Deputy in Hawai’i to the Most Worthy Grand Matron, a position she held for over ten years, and also as an OES Ambassador to the Philippines for three years. She was also affiliated with Daughters of the Nile and served as Queen of Egyptian Temple # 33 in 2000-01.
They retired from those many positions as Jim’s health issues increased. Carole and Jim decided to return to Nebraska and make their home in Lincoln to be close to family, and they did so in July of 2015. Jim passed away in June of 2016.
Carole will be missed by family members and friends alike, including her children (natural and step), her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her cousin Jean Miller, and a multitude of friends.
Celebration of Life service will be held at 11am on November 2, 2021 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 8320 South St, Lincoln, NE.
