Ethel Lovella (Loewen) Hagen

Ethel Lovella Loewen Hagen, 92, of Lincoln, passed away August 15 2017. Born June 4, 1925, in Hillsboro, Kansas, to Jacob A. and Bena (Kliewer) Loewen. Graduate of Hillsboro High School in Hillsboro. She was a sales clerk for Gold’s and then Brandeis Department Store. As a member of First Baptist Church she was active in the chancel and bell choirs. She sang with the Lincoln Symphony Chorale where she was occasionally a soprano soloist.

Ethel played a lead role in the Sound Of Music at the Pinewood Bowl along with several other musicals. She and her husband, Lowell, performed as a duo for many churches, senior centers, and other organizations. Later she joined the Lincoln Senior Chorus. Ethel also loved sewing, quilting, needlework, and gardening.

Family members include her daughters, Carla Hagen Piper, Modesto, Calif., and Gay Hagen (Greg) Dunn, Mariposa, Calif.; son, Barry (Sherry) Hagen, Cameron, Mo.; nine grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Connie Hiebert, Topeka, Kan.; brother, Robert Loewen, Hillsboro, Kan. Preceded in death by husband, Lowell; daughter, Mona Hagen Hannan; parents; brothers, Merrill Loewen and Klaiton Loewen.

Funeral service: 11 a.m. Wednesday (8-23) Roper and Sons Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ Street. Graveside service: 1 p.m. Thursday (8-24) Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church Cemetery, Hillsboro, Kan.

Memorials to First Baptist Church, 1340 K Street, Lincoln, NE 68508 or Tabor College, 400 S. Jefferson Street, Hillsboro, KS 67063. Visitation one hour prior to service time.
