As friends and neighbors of Bob and Donna, we had many opportunities to spend time with Bessie. Bessie had the ability to always make you feel like one of the family, a rare and special gift. She will be greatly missed.

When I arrived in the US in 1999 she came to pick me up at the airport. I was 16 and I did’t even know where I was and what to expect. I will never forget her surrounded by balloons, being so happy to welcome. She hugged me like I was her daughter she hadn’t seen for a long time. In that hug I felt everything: I felt her strength, I felt her love, I felt her big heart and generosity. I felt everything I had the chance to see during the whole year there. Thank you Bessy for being my American grandma ❤️, with all my love,

– Allegra
