Obituary

Terry A. Sindelar

November 14, 1948 - March 26, 2024

Terry A. Sindelar, of Lincoln, passed away on March 26, 2024, surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Sindelar; his sons: Michael Sindelar, Jason Sindelar (Amanda McCrary), and Joe Glaser (Sara Glaser); and his daughter, Suzie Olberding (Matt Olberding). Other survivors include his grandchildren: Dylan, Morgan, Hailey, Audrey, Cora, Anna, Gracelyn, and Kasen; his brother, Tom Sindelar (Karen); nephews: Scott Sindelar (Suzan) and Dana; as well as grandnieces and grandnephews.

Terry is preceded in death by his parents, Longin and Inez Sindelar; and his brother, Reinold Sindelar.

Terry was born in Columbus, NE, and grew up on a family farm outside of Richland. After he graduated from Schuyler High School in 1966, he served in the U.S. Navy as a machinist mate, spending three years on the West Coast.

He returned to the farm after his time in the military until he moved to Lincoln to attend the University of Nebraska, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting.

Terry met his wife, Jane, on a blind date in 1979. They were married on June 20, 1980. Together, they raised four children and enjoyed their seven grandchildren over their forty-four years of marriage. Terry continued to help on the family farm in his spare time, until the passing of his parents. He loved the land and the work itself. He also enjoyed hanging out with his friends from high school. Over the years, he was always up for a good game of Sheepshead with his buddies. Terry spent his career working for the Nebraska Department of Insurance as a financial examiner. He retired in 2012.

Terry and Jane spent a lot of their spare time going to various games, matches and performances to watch their grandchildren in their activities. From the baseball field to the drama stage, watching his grandchildren do what they loved always brought a smile to his face.

A devoted fan of Nebraska Wrestling, Terry often referred to the wrestling team as “his kids.” His presence at matches and tournaments, spanning decades, left an indelible mark on the Nebraska Wrestling community, where he forged lasting friendships and made significant contributions to the UNL Wrestling Boosters Club.

In retirement, Terry and Jane embarked on adventures near and far, following their shared love of wrestling across the country and indulging in dream trips to destinations including Ireland and the Canadian Rockies. When not traveling, Terry found solace in simple pleasures like gardening, tending to his lawn, and cheering for Husker football and baseball. He also loved to hang out with friends at his favorite watering hole, Spikes.

Above all, Terry will be remembered for his quick wit and infectious sense of humor, his legendary dad jokes bringing laughter to all who knew him. You knew he loved you if he gave you a hard time. His absence leaves a void that can never be filled, but his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know and love him.

Funeral service will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 4th at Roper and Sons South Lincoln Chapel, 3950 Hohensee Drive, Lincoln, NE.

A visitation will take place on Wednesday, April 3rd, with family greeting friends from 5:30-7:30 P.M., also at Roper and Sons South Lincoln Chapel.

Memorials can be sent to the National Wrestling Training Center (NWTC): 110 Hendricks Training Complex, Lincoln, NE, 68588; or the Tunnels to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, NY, 10306

Well, Terry…you had quite the ride! Having been along side you supporting Nebraska Wrestling for so years, it’s easy to know you loved the sport and the life it gave us all! The men on the mat know what it’s like to have a true sportsman in the room – rambling off stats of wrestlers, duals, nationals and downright trivia of years gone by. Blessings to your family, Terry and seeing your shoes on the mat are certainly a VICTORY on our eyes!

Not only was Terry a great fan and supporter of every wrestler while they competed but of all the many fans he was the one that reached out a year after my son had graduated and asked how he was doing. I’ll miss seeing Jane and Terry matside. ❤️
