Donald “Dwight” Wright

Donald “Dwight” Wright, 89, of Lincoln passed away peacefully with family by his side on December 31, 2023. Born April 14, 1934, in Milo, Iowa to Guy and Mary “Eunice” (Flanagan) Wright.

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:38-39

Dwight attended a one room country school and Milo High School. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, IA and the California College of Mortuary Science in Los Angeles, CA. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958 and attended USAFI, 16 months in Korea at the US Armed Forces Institute.

On October 22, 1955, Dwight was united in marriage to Patricia Damman at the First United Methodist Church in Newton, IA.

Dwight held his funeral directors license in Iowa for 60+ years and was a member of the Iowa Funeral Directors Association. He worked as a funeral director in Des Moines, Newton, Winterset and Creston, Iowa prior to coming to Lincoln to work for Roper and Sons Funeral Home where he retired after 50 years.

Dwight was a member of Christ Place Church where he volunteered in guest services and prayer team, Lincoln Chapter, Nebraska and National Societies-Sons of the American Revolution, former member of Lincoln Downtown Rotary International Club #14 with 20 years perfect attendance, Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International, served 3 years as hospitality chair for Lincoln Chamber of Commerce, former vice president of Board of Directors for the Peoples City Mission, former member of the former Lincoln University Club. For many years, Dwight was the organist, pianist, and vocalist for various churches and sang for many funerals for Roper & Sons.

I would see Dwight at the Iowa Funeral Directors Conventions. Our conversations were a delight. My hometown (New Virginia, IA) is not far from Milo, and Dwight knew well my relatives in Milo. Our conversations often swirled around music, as we both sang and played piano and organ. Your family has been blessed to have Dwight’s life to honor and emulate.

My deepest sympathy to Dwight’s families, those he brought up from childhood, those he worked with as an adult and those who were privileged to have called him a friend. There are many things that could compliment this man. Most importantly, he was a man of the highest dignity, integrity, kindness and faith. I will miss my friend!

My sympathy to Dwight’s family and also to his family of coworkers at Roper and Sons Funeral Homes. I always enjoyed our visits at the Iowa Funeral Directors Association conventions. Dwight was always very kind and thoughtful. He has served his community, church, and families that he assisted through funeral service, with great compassion, care, and commitment. Blessings to a life well lived.

WHAT A DELIGHTFUL GENTLEMAN 🤗🥂🙏🌷 Here in IOWA, it wasn’t ever a complete STATE CONVENTION …… unless our blessed Dwight was present. THANK YOU DWIGHT for all the memories you helped us create. May GOD grant you a peaceful rest as we thank Him for your life in ours. Quoting Mark Twain; “May you live your life so well that when it too comes our time to die ….. EVEN THE UNDERTAKER IS SADDENED” 😔 Jim Russell Families, an Iowa funeral directing family

Dwight was a blessing to me and my life was better because of him. I remember seeing him Saturday nights at church. You could see Jesus in Dwight’s eyes. I pray that God grants all of you the peace that surpasses all understanding! Love Bob
