Byron Arthur Darrington

September 8, 1926 - July 14, 2026

Byron Arthur Darrington, 99, passed away on July 14, 2026, in Lincoln, NE. He was born on September 8, 1926, to Arthur and Izetta (Lapworth) Darrington in Pottawattamie County, IA.

He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as a Seaman First Class (RM) stationed at The Transportation Headquarters-12th Naval District, San Francisco, CA. Byron worked as a Technical Specialist for the Addressograph-Multigraph Corp. throughout Nebraska and Iowa for 35 years. He was a member of First Plymouth Congregational Church for 67 years. He was also a member of the American Legion for over 69 years. In his later years he volunteered at Lincoln General / Bryan Hospital. He also volunteered at the Lied Center for the Performing Arts.

Byron is survived by his wife of 74 years, Janis; sons, Mark and Jon; grandchildren, Matthew (Tracy) Darrington and Abby Hartman; great-grandchildren, Natalie Darrington, Kaden Hartman, and Corbin Hartman; chosen family, Nancy McConkey and daughter, Hannah Schilz; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Joyce Glesman, Vera Beamer, and Esther Darrington, brother, Marvin Darrington, and daughter-in-law, Jeannie Darrington.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Roper and Sons South Chapel (3950 Hohensee Dr, Lincoln, NE 68516). A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. A burial will take place at 3:00 p.m.

Memorials are designated to First Plymouth Congregational Church.
