Alberta Laura Alyce (Plautz) Marquis

September 9, 1937 - May 19, 2011

Alberta Laura Alyce (Plautz) Marquis, 73, died on Thursday, May 19, 2011, in San Antonio, TX.  She was born on September 9, 1937, in Spirit Lake, IA, to Albert LaRoy Gustav and Eva Laura (Riddle) Plautz.

Her family moved to Nebraska in 1943 settling in Ashland, where she graduated in 1956.  She was a member of the Grace Communion International Church and the Lincoln Crossroads Church.  She enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  She loved traveling, fishing, reading, camping with her grandsons, creating her own jewelry for friends and family and doing other crafts with the ladies in Del Rio, TX, where she spent the past 4 winters.  She worked at the Nebraska State Penitentiary for over 15 years; drove semi-tractor trailers for several years; and worked nearly 10 years at the UNL Love Library before retiring in 1996.

Alberta is survived by her husband, Duane of Raymond, NE; daughter, Tiffany of Lincoln, 2 grandsons, Kaleb and Schyler Luther of Lincoln, two sisters, June (Clifford) Kern and Betty (Gene) Cunningham both of Ashland; aunts, many cousins, nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and one nephew, Scott Kern.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Monday (6-13-11) Roper and Sons Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ Street.

Memorials may be sent to the National Kidney Foundation, American Heart Association, or National Arbor Day Foundation.
