Bill was a lifelong educator, serving as both a teacher and principal, and he impacted the lives of countless students and staff. He had a bright spirit and a steady, encouraging way about him, always urging his children and grandchildren to try their best and to look for the bright side, even on difficult days.
He was fun-loving and welcoming, a generous host who especially enjoyed traveling to warm, sunny places where he could get in a good swim. A talented singer and devoted crossword enthusiast, Bill often reminded those he loved that he was “handsome and charming,” a line that never failed to bring a smile.
Bill is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters, Mary (Joel) Carstens and Aubyn Peterson; sister, Karen Simopoulos, and her children, Eleni, Doty, Billy, and their families; step-children, Keri Applebee (Tom Ahlschwede) and Tesha (Bingo) Bender; grandchildren, James, Abigail (Carstens), Jakob, Nik (Ahlschwede), Daxx, and Beaux (Bender); brother-in-law, Brad (Susie) Heiliger; and the mother of his children, Judy Peterson. He is also remembered with love by numerous nieces and nephews.
At Bill’s request, a private gathering will be held at his home.
