Obituary

Rev. Samuel R. Boman

July 17, 1927 - June 4, 2025

The Rev. Samuel R. Boman, 97, of Lincoln died June 4, 2025. He was born July 17, 1927, in Pierceville, KS to Samuel and Artemeca (Ratliff) Boman. Samuel grew up on the farm with his 2 brothers and sister. His father sent him to school earlier than usual because he was asking too many questions. He graduated from Lakin High School in Lakin, Kansas at the age of 15. He then attended Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. That is where he met Mary Ann, a fellow student and the love of his life. He married Mary Ann on June 2, 1947. He entered seminary at Seabury-Western Theological Seminary, Evanston, Illinois. He was ordained a deacon in 1950 for the Diocese of Kansas. He was ordained a priest in 1951 in Wamego, Kansas.

Samuel was a faithful servant, mentor and pastor. He was steadfast in his service to the Lord and others. His remarkable mind and thirst for knowledge was legendary. He was truly a blessing to the Church, his family and friends.

Samuel and Mary Ann traveled extensively in their Airstream trailer in their retirement, visiting 49 states and all virtually every Canadian province. They were married for 72 years, had 6 children and countless adventures.

Samuel loved all Huskers sports and never stopped learning.

Suzanne — sorry to hear about Father Sam. He was an important man (Priest) in my life during my short time in NP. There were a number of times when I sought his counsel and it was always wise, including a time when I though suicide was preferable to living during my freshman year at NPJC. I know you understand that God’s grace will be with you.

Father Sam goes to meet the top dog, the Father of All, the Great Architect of the Universe. What a “Meet ‘n’ Greet” that surely was!!! My, how Sam could enliven an Airstream rally. Tina and I were blessed to know him and to enjoy his company and that of his bride, Mary Ann, on a portion of our mutual journey through Life. And, exactly like the ever-increasing disappearance of the big, classic Airstreams of old, so, too, are the classic, irreplaceable members of yesteryear taking their final trip around the last bend in the road, checking out what actually is beyond the crest of that last hill…probably another ‘Meet ‘n’ Greet,’ but this timevwith the owner of BRN #1. They and our club of old are and will be forever diminished by their absence. Walk well, my Brother. (Inuit Prayer)
