Obituary

Nancy Janet Ahlvers

July 6, 1938 - April 29, 2022

Nancy Janet Ahlvers (née Hult) or “Goggy” or “Goggie” as a lot of her family affectionately called her, passed away Friday, April 29, 2022, at the age of 83.

She’d be having a fit that we’re fussing over her and you’re reading this obituary with details of her life. But if anyone deserves attention for all the immense love she had for her family and friends, it’s her.

Born on July 6, 1938, in Omaha, Neb., Nancy moved to Wahoo, Neb., where she graduated from Wahoo High School and attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Mo.

After a road trip to California, she married her trip chauffeur and longtime friend Charles “Chuck” Ahlvers on March 10, 1959 in Santa Monica, Calif.

Chuck and Nancy planted roots in Wayne, Neb., to raise and dote on their three children, Daniel, Julie and Denise. She extended her motherly nature to other children working as a schoolteacher at Wayne County Country School for many rewarding years.

After becoming empty nesters, Nancy and Chuck moved to Lincoln, Neb., in 1986 and have lived there since.

A schoolteacher by trade, she could be found at their round kitchen table balancing checkbooks or finishing the daily crossword in the newspaper.

Caretaker by heart, the roles of mom and eventually grandma came naturally to Nancy. Years later, she gained hundreds of “grandchildren” when she worked in the cafeteria at Pyrtle Elementary School.

Nancy is survived by her husband Chuck; son Daniel; daughters Julie Hinds (son-in-law Donald) and Denise Jacobmeier (son-in-law Jon); grandchildren Logan (granddaughter-in-law Maggie), Sara and Taylor Hinds and Alexia, Tessa and Caleb Jacobmeier; sister Peggy (Kettelhut) Jensen; various nephews, nieces and cousins.

Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Zelpha; brothers Daniel Hult, Bill Gill, Jerry Eklund, Rodney Kettelhut; sister Barbara (Gill) Coffey; nephew Ethan.

My heart goes out to you with the loss of of Mrs. Ahlvers, one of the greatest country school teachers. I learned a lot from her and so enjoyed all of the crafts we got to make with her. She helped make me what I am today! My prayers are with all of you.

I had the privilege of knowing Nancy when she worked at Pyrtle. She was indeed a wonderful, kind person doting on the children she served nutritious meals to each day. I didn’t get to work with Nancy daily, but was a supervisor for the Food Service Dept. and it was always a joy to visit Pyrtle and Nancy was always willing to show me how things were done there. I want to extent my sincere sympathy to your family. I know you will be conforted with all the memories you have made with Nancy over the years. My thoughts and prayers are with you. May God Bless You.

One of the last of my rural teachers from the time of my experience with school nursing!! I enjoyed every one of them!! Julie, my sympathies to you; got a chuckle out of the fact she’d be having a fit about now! And your brother in law is a former wrestler; when your kids go to Winside High School, you know all the area wrestlers!! Happy, of course, that Tabitha Hospice was able to help out. Got bless.
