Mary Abbie Anderson, Waverly, NE went to her final resting place on June 18 , 2009, at Milder Manor Care in Lincoln, NE . She was born on May 1, 1923, in Denver, CO to Reverend Homer and Mary Abbie (McNassor) Hix.
She graduated from Stromsburg, NE High School in 1941 and went on to college at Nebraska Wesleyan and University of Colorado at Greeley where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Music. She started teaching in Denver after college, when her parents moved to Potter, NE and later retired, where she met her future husband, Ralph Anderson. They were married on August 11, 1946, and made their home on a farm 3 ½ miles north of Potter. Her husband preceded her in death on October 1, 2008.
They raised four children and Mary Abbie was very involved and a dedicated volunteer to her church and many other community activities. She also substitute taught at the Potter Public Schools, along with helping with numerous music students preparing for contests and other activities. She also taught piano lessons in her home as well as sharing her love of music with her children. She was an accomplished organist for her church, accompanied and wrote music for numerous events, and sang at different functions when asked. She was later a member of the Fort Sidney Colonel singers in Sidney, NE.
Mary Abbie was a dedicated wife, mother, and friend to many. She is survived by brother-in-law and sister-in-law Harry and Vivian Sjulson, St. Hilaire, MN and brother-in-law, Joe Koudele, Manhattan, KS. She is also survived by her three children, nine grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. They are Hollis Anderson, children Julie Anderson, Tim Anderson and Lisa (Nate) Anderson and Parker; Forrest Anderson (fiancé, Jody) daughters, Ashley and Taylor Anderson; Cloette (Kevin) Shumann, children Mac and Abby Shumann; her daughter-in-laws Nancy Anderson and Jan Anderson, children Chad Moller (Sherry), Allison and Madison and Erik Anderson and Zoe . She was preceded in death by her parents and brother and sister-in-law, Homer and Jean Hix, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Earl and Mary Anderson, sister-in-law Dorothy Koudele, son Dyke Anderson, and daughter-in-law Debra Anderson.
Mary Abbie will be remembered at a memorial service at First United Methodist in Waverly, on Friday, June 26, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Jim Wallasky officiating. The family will greet friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.
