Kiyoshi George Hachiya

Dr. Kiyoshi George Hachiya, age 97, passed away on February 23, 2018. Kiyoshi was born to Fusa and Touru Hachiya on April 12, 1920 in Charter Oak, California. He was preceded in death by his Brother Dr. Keay Hachiya, Sister Satsuki Hidaka and dear Sons Steven and Dr. John Hachiya.

He is survived by his Wife of 67 years Chiyoko, Daughters Dr Kiyomi Hachiya (St Paul, MN) and Dr. Harumi Lee Hachiya (Minneapolis), son Dr. Ron Hachiya (Lincoln); daughter–in-laws Mary Beth and Deborah, 7 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. At age 97 he outlived and missed many of his childhood friends, army buddies, fishing buddies and neighbors.

When Kiyoshi’s father took him to kindergarten his teacher could not pronounce his name and she gave him the name ‘George.’ George attended the University of California, Berkeley and UNL. He was a US Army veteran of WWII and the Korean War. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge. After leaving military service he attended the University Of Nebraska College Of Medicine and specialized in Psychiatry. He retired from his medical practice in Lincoln in 1989, and then was a consultant at Blue Valley Mental Health Clinics and a volunteer consultant at the Catholic Social Services in Lincoln. George was proud of the University of Nebraska and was a member of the Chancellor’s Society. He enjoyed deep sea fishing, gardening and worldwide travels with Chiyo.

George was a proud veteran and attended many MIS reunions, supported military organizations (DAV, VFW), funded ROTC scholarships and was honored to care for veterans at the Lincoln VA Medical Center.

The family wishes to thank the Tabitha Martha House for their compassionate care and the exceptional care provided by Dr. Gary Pattee, Dr. L. Birkman and Dr Elliott Frank.

As George wished, funeral services will be private.
