Harold E. Roper

February 27, 1931 - May 11, 2025

Harold E “Curly” Roper, 94, of Lincoln passed away May 11, 2025. Harold was born February 27, 1931, in Courtland, KS to Earl and Edna (Workman) Roper. In 1954, he married Elaine Hansen in Hardy, NE and they moved to Ogden, Utah near Hill Air Force Base. They returned to Lincoln in 1955 and resided in this area since.

Harold served in the U.S. Air Force (1951-1955) during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Japan and flew several missions as part of a B-29 aircraft crew. Following his military service, he graduated from UNL with a business administration degree in 1958. Subsequently he worked as an agent for the IRS, retiring after 33 years. He then worked at Union Bank and Trust in the student loan accounting department.
After their retirements, Harold and Elaine raised llamas on their acreage outside Lincoln. He also enjoyed gardening, entertaining friends at the “ranch”, antiquing, traveling, spending time with his grandchildren and attending their activities. Harold was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 3.
Family members include his son Steve (Camilla) Roper, Ann Arbor, MI; daughter Susan (Larry) Bragg, Kearney, NE; grandchildren Alex Roper (Kristen Kozak), Jared Bragg, William Bragg (Danae Belanger), Thomas Bragg, Emma Bragg; great grandchildren Robin Roper and Eugene Bragg; nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends. Preceded in death by his parents, wife of 49 years Elaine, sister Bethel Persinger, brother Delbert Roper.
Committal service will be 9:00 am Monday, May 19, 2025, Lincoln Memorial Park, 6800 S. 14th Street. Please meet at Gate #2.
Memorial service: 10:00 am Monday, May 19, 2025, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 1200 S. 40th Street.
