Gretchen R. Naugle, 78, of Lincoln passed away September 20, 2021. Born January 5, 1943, in Bath, PA to Benjamin and Elizabeth (Lerch) Rohn.

 

Family members include husband, Ronald; daughter & son-in-law, Meredith & Jeremiah Heilig of Lakewood, CO; sister, Louis Huebner of Fountain Hills, AZ. Preceded in death by parents and sister, Lucille Boughner.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m., October 15, 2021, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Seward, NE with Bishop J. Scott Barker officiating.

Memorials to the Episcopal Diocese of Nebraska 109 North 18th Street, Omaha, NE 68102. No Visitation/Cremation.

I first met Gretchen in the early 80’s while working with Ron on a documentary. Gretchen immediately warmed my heart with her graciousness and her open, enlightened mind. And her laugh. And her strength. I am so sorry for your loss, Ron and Meredith.

I worked with Gretchen at the Nebraska Library Commission. We had a great time and would frequently go out for lunch. I also remember helping them move to Iowa City for a year so she could get her MLS degree. I had Gretchen and baby Meredith in my car and the baby cried most of the way there. And then a year later I helped them move back to Lincoln. It was very hot that day as we loaded up the moving van. I was so glad to get back to Lincoln and I know Gretchen and Ron were exhausted. I will miss Gretchen very much and extend my sympathies to the family. I’m sorry I will not be able to attend the service but my mother is in hospice care and is failing very quickly now and I don’t want to be out of town even for a short time.
