Obituary

George S. Schwartz

November 11, 1941 - January 25, 2026

George S. Schwartz, age 84, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026, at Orchard Park Assisted Living in Lincoln, Nebraska.

George was born on November 11, 1941, to Fred and Mary (Nab) Schwartz in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. He grew up on a sugar beet farm near Melbeta, where he learned the value of hard work and perseverance. A talented athlete, George enjoyed track and field during his high school years and graduated from Melbeta High School.

He went on to attend the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, where he studied architecture. It was there that he met Sherry Lane Proctor, whom he later married. Together they built a life and raised four children: Michelle, Stan, Tyler, and Prudence.

After beginning their family in Waverly, Nebraska, George and his family moved to Kearney in 1976. He worked for several years at Eagle Corporation and later became part owner of AMS Corporation in Kearney, a company that installed acoustical ceiling tiles throughout Nebraska and neighboring states. George took pride in his work and the relationships he built throughout his career.

Following the passing of his first wife, George later married Pamela Morris. They shared many joyful years together traveling, fishing, entertaining friends and family, and collecting art, creating a life filled with companionship and shared adventures.

George was most proud of his family. He found joy in family meals together, fishing, hunting, golfing, gardening, singing, dancing, and cheering on the Nebraska Cornhuskers as a devoted Husker fan. He also enjoyed generously supporting the Lincoln High cheerleading and girls’ tennis teams. He will be remembered for his love of life and the deep care he had for those closest to him.

George is survived by his wife, Pamela Schwartz of Kearney, Nebraska; his children Stan (Rocky) Schwartz of Cleburne, Texas, Tyler (Annette) Schwartz of Kearney, Nebraska, and Prudence (Rik) Devney of Lincoln, Nebraska; stepchildren Autumn (Zach) Wright of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Ryan (Amy) Morris of Kearney, Nebraska; siblings Gloria Morey of Columbia, Maryland, and Joyce Conklin of Melbeta, Nebraska, Robert (Nelda) Nab; grandchildren Lainey (Andy) Johnson of Firth, Nebraska, Addie (Sam) Schrader of Omaha, Nebraska, Bella Devney and Alydia Devney of Lincoln, Nebraska, Hope Schwartz and Zach Schwartz of Kearney, Nebraska, Sloan Wright and Opie Wright of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Harrison, Jack, and Leafie Morris of Kearney, Nebraska; and great-grandchildren Sam Johnson and Joanna Johnson of Firth, Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sherry Schwartz; his daughter, Michelle Martelle; his parents, Fred and Mary Schwartz; and his siblings Wayne (Vivian) Crabill, Donnie (Bob) Gallawa, and Nancy (Carey) Ogata.
