Fern Marie Jost, 95, of Kearney formerly of Lincoln died Thursday at Good Samaritan Society St Luke’s, August 22, 2013.
Services will be at 2 pm Tuesday, August 27th at First Baptist Church, 14th and K, in Lincoln. Memorials will go to: First Baptist Church, Lincoln City Mission and Good Samaritan Society St Luke’s of Kearney.
Fern was born on October 29, 1917 to Joe and Faye Scharenberg on a farm near Marion Kansas. On October 28, 1938 she was married to Herb Jost and they lived and farmed near Marion. She and Herb had three children, Maurice (Mo), Stanley and Bonnie. In 1953 the family moved to Lincoln Nebraska. Being a “stay at home mom” was important to her but she also spent many hours at her sewing machine sewing draperies for Sears. She also was a secretary for Greater Mexican Missions and also for Herb’s work in Prison Ministries. Herb died in 1993 and Fern remain in Lincoln until 2007 when she moved to Kearney’s Good Samaritan Society St Luke’s for health reasons.
She was involved with First Baptist Church and organizing Christian Women’s Retreats for ladies across the state. She loved entertaining friends and family and was known for her homemade bread served at meals that many times might also included college kids and people of need. Fern volunteered at Bryan Hospital for many years and also provided rooms in her home for people staying with patients at the hospital.
Survivors include her children: Mo (Sally) Jost of Seward NE, Stan (Jackie) Jost of Salida CO, Bonnie (Jim) Hahn Johnson Lake NE. Grandchildren: Jon (Marianella) Jost, Kimberly (Jim) Riechart, Angella (Scott) Kanger, Courtney (Shane) Houska, Matt (Sasha) Hahn, Mitch (Denise) Hahn, Katie (James) Reeves and Great-Grandchildren: Jonathon, Maxwell and Spencer Reichart, Landon Houska, Keenan and Riley Hahn, Deanna Stanley and Austin Hahn, Chesney, Logan and Lincoln Reeves. Sister-in-law Dorothy (Leo) Scharenberg.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Lois Jost and two brothers, Orville and Leo Scharenberg, Brother-in-Law June Jost and Sister-in-Law Marianna Scharenberg.
