Edwin D. Clapper

May 29, 1927 - June 18, 2022

Edwin D. Clapper
May 29, 1927- June 18, 2022
Ed passed away Saturday, June 18. Born May 29, 1927 in Des Moines, Iowa, to Charles and Luella (Kimball) Clapper.

He grew up in Ft. Riley, KS. before moving to Lincoln. He graduated from Northeast High School, and promptly joined the Army. He served stateside until after WWII ended. Ed married Geraldine ‘Jerry’ Garrett, his wife of more than 69 years, before her passing in 2019. They had three children.

Ed had a career of 36 plus years at State Farm Insurance. He was a member of the Thoroughbred Breeders Association for more than 30 years. Ed’s passion was for horses, raising them and running them in races in the Midwest. He was a serious scholar of horse genealogy, and could tell you just about any horse’s sire and lineage.

Ed will forever be remembered by his children, Dr. Dan Clapper (Colleen), David Clapper (Kyuri), Dona (Mark) Vogt, eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 8th, at Roper and Sons Midtown Chapel, 4300 O Street.

Ed was a walking dictionary for horse racing and Thoroughbreds. I met him at Bryan Life Pointe in 2007. We remained friends as long as he attended Life Pointe. He knew the horses and had first hand knowledge of the trainers. If you wanted to know anything about horse racing, Ed was your man. He raised and ran his own horses of which he was very proud. He brought pictures and stories of his horses and they were impressive. He had a good sense of humor. He kept referring to his roommate whom I finally figured out was Jerry, his wife. She was a neat lady who Ed thought the world of. Glad I had a chance to know him!!
