He grew up in Ft. Riley, KS. before moving to Lincoln. He graduated from Northeast High School, and promptly joined the Army. He served stateside until after WWII ended. Ed married Geraldine ‘Jerry’ Garrett, his wife of more than 69 years, before her passing in 2019. They had three children.
Ed had a career of 36 plus years at State Farm Insurance. He was a member of the Thoroughbred Breeders Association for more than 30 years. Ed’s passion was for horses, raising them and running them in races in the Midwest. He was a serious scholar of horse genealogy, and could tell you just about any horse’s sire and lineage.
Ed will forever be remembered by his children, Dr. Dan Clapper (Colleen), David Clapper (Kyuri), Dona (Mark) Vogt, eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 8th, at Roper and Sons Midtown Chapel, 4300 O Street.
