Dr. Vernon W. Rinne, D.D.S., age 95, passed away on Friday April 23, 2021 surrounded by family members. He was born in Violet, NE to Fred W. Rinne Jr. and Regina Bartels Rinne on December 15, 1925. Vernon left the family farm to serve in a medical unit in WWII. After the war Vernon pursued a degree in dentistry from the UNMC College of Dentistry. He enjoyed a 38-year career as a Professor of Dentistry and Chairman of the Adult Restorative Department with the UNMC College of Dentistry. He was a lifelong Husker enthusiast and fan. Vernon attended decades of Husker football games and had season tickets for volleyball. He was a long-time member of the Lincoln Pigeon Racing Club. Throughout his life, Vernon stayed engaged with his farming roots. He continued to manage the family farms in Pawnee City and Steinauer, Nebraska.
Vernon is survived by his wife, MyHanh Phan-Rinne DDS, their daughter, Taylor and five children from his previous marriage to Millie Rinne, Mark (Rose Ann), Denise Way (Todd), Neal (Helen) Ann and Barbara. There are 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the People’s City Mission (Lincoln) or the Food Bank of Lincoln.
