Donald Heaps

June 26, 1940 - April 19, 2022

Don was born at 7:30PM on June 26, 1940 in Broken Bow, NE to Donald and Lillie Heaps.

He grew up in Broken Bow and graduated high school there in 1958.

In 1962, he met and married Nola Nielson in Arlington, NE. To this union, son Scott was born October 9, 1963, and daughter Tammy followed on February 23, 1967. During this time, Don drove truck for Bell Creek out of Arlington. In his free time, he enjoyed playing bass guitar and sang country music in a local band. They would travel around to small town bars playing for tips.

In 1971, he met and married Karen Johnston in Valley, NE. To this union, daughter Deanna was born on February 20, 1974. Don was still driving truck for Bell Creek and then later went on to drive for Rogert’s Sand Pit in Valley. He enjoyed boating on the Missouri River, dancing, and bowling.

Don moved to Madison, NE in 1976 where he went to work for Schmeer Trucking and then Central Transport out of Norfolk. A short time later, he met the love of his life, Lucretia “Lucky” (Rakowsky) Ramsier at the El Toro Steakhouse & Lounge where they danced the night away. Eventually, Don moved to Lincoln, NE with Lucretia and her daughter Melanie. On June 30, 1983, Don and Lucretia were married in Greybull, WY. Don began working as a security guard for Dorsey Laboratories in Lincoln. Over the years, Don and Lucky enjoyed spending time together camping, playing cards, listening to country music and of course DANCING! They loved to dance!!! He also enjoyed watching sports and car racing.

Don passed away on April 19, 2022 at the Tabitha Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lincoln.

Don was preceded in death by both of his parents, as well as his brother Larry, daughter Tammy, and his wife Lucky.

Don is survived by brother Charlie (Maggie) Heaps, son Scott (Deborah) Heaps, daughter Deanna (Tom) Melton, step-daughter Melanie Ramsier, grandchildren Gina, Blazek, Karissa, Stormi, and Harleigh, as well as four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Roper and Son’s Midtown Chapel on Saturday, May 21st at 10:30 a.m.
