Obituary

Craig LeRoy Jones

August 20, 1948 - March 29, 2024

Craig LeRoy Jones passed away March 29, 2024. Craig, known as CJ or Jonesy to many of his friends, was born August 20, 1948 to Elvera (Swanson) Jones and Maurice E. Jones, Sr. in Sioux City, IA.

Shortly after graduating high school in 1966, he entered the Air Force serving from 1966 to 1970 as an Air Intelligence Specialist.

Following his honorable discharge from the Air Force, he returned to Sioux City and began working at a local grocery store. In 1980, he began his thirty eight year career as a meat cutter at HyVee, moving to Lincoln in 1981.

Craig was a caring and generous man who loved his family, his friends and his fur babies, Scooter, Petey, Molly and Brody. He also loved Husker football, Kansas City Chiefs, playing fantasy football and golf. He enjoyed music especially Motown, Jazz and Blues. In fact, he was recently telling a care provider that in his younger years he felt he was an enthusiastic if not good dancer.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Maurice Sr. and Elvera Jones; brothers, Maurice Jr. (Bud) Jones, Doug Jones and sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Jerry Seward.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Ackerman; stepsons, Nick Ackerman and Greg Ackerman as well as nephews and nieces and many long term friends.

We worked with Jonesy at Hy-Vee in Sioux City and Lincoln. He could always put a smile on your face every day. We have great memories hanging out. He showed Pam how to 2 step and yes he was a great dancer. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
